Care for Learners

Within each centre, a designated person, such as the course coordinator, Deputy Principal, guidance counsellor, Assistant Training manager or other named person, will be available to address any concerns of an academic nature that the learner may have.

LMETB makes every effort to accommodate learners with disabilities or specific needs and has ratified a revised Reasonable Accommodations Procedure.

Financial Support

Financial supports are available to some FET learners, depending on the type of programme they are pursuing and their personal circumstances. Some examples include:  Meal and Travel Allowance, Accommodation Allowance.

Learners in certain training programmes may be eligible for low-cost childcare under the National Childcare Scheme, operated by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.

Guidance, Information and Recruitment Services

LMETB’s Guidance, Information and Recruitment Services help people to make informed educational, career and life choices by providing impartial and confidential Guidance Counselling, information and support to adults in relation to their education, training and career options.

For more information on this service, see our Guidance Information and Recruitment section.

Appeals

LMETB has an Assessment Appeals policy in place and learners are informed, during their induction, of the procedure for appealing an assessment result.

LMETB also has an Admissions Appeals Policy which outlines to FET applicants both the grounds and the procedures to appeal an admissions-related decision.  Application form to appeal is found here.

Learner Resources

On many FET programmes, course materials and text books are provided free of charge to learners.

ETBI and FESS Support Services have developed the following resources which are available to learners at the relevant levels:

ICT Devices Loan Scheme

LMETB FET learners have greatly benefited from the ICT Devices Loan Scheme, a government funded scheme with the aim of ensuring access to ICT devices for learners during remote/blended learning due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Universal Design for Learning

The following publications from ETBI, SOLAS and AHEAD have raised awareness amongst LMETB educators in relation to Universal Design for Learning:

Staff have been enabled to attend both AHEAD’s UDL Digital Badge and ETBI’s Autumn 2021 Webinar Series on UDL and encouraged to apply the learning back to their practice.

Literacy and Numeracy Supports

LMETB programmes use two main tools to assist in identifying any Literacy, Numeracy or ICT supports required. BKSB and Edexcel are in use across many centres/ colleges.

Learners across LMETB FET programmes including Apprenticeships, PLC and VTOS can access Literacy and Numeracy supports in-house via linkages with LMETB’s Adult Literacy Organisers and tutors.

Furthermore, LMETB’s Integrating Literacy Policy has been supported by the organisation of staff CPD in that area.

Supported Study

Many FET centres/colleges offer Study Hubs or supported study options where learners are able to avail of a quiet space for study with resources and supports available to them.

Counselling Services

FET Learners have access to inhouse counselling supports if the need is identified at centre/college level.

Adult Safeguarding

LMETB is committed to implementing and following policies, procedures and practices which promote adult safeguarding. You can view LMETB’s FET Adult Safeguarding Policy and Procedure here.
