This month, Dunboyne College of Further Education received its own roll number and independent status. For the past 10 years, since it’s inception, DCFE has operated under the umbrella of St. Peter’s College, Dunboyne. With its own independent status the college can expand, and offer the even more course and choices than it currently does. The college has grown quickly to over 400 students on 20 different course programmes catering for the Meath, West Dublin and north Kildare areas. The college has enjoyed considerable success with 90% of students who achieve a full FETAC level 5 award going on to third level. The college also offers vocational programmes leading to employment in areas including IT, childcare and professional cookery.
This year the college has also launched a second year level 6 programme. The college is already working on close co-operation with 3rd level institutions like NUI Maynooth, DCU, IT Blanchardstown and DIT, and the Professional Cookery course in Dunboyne sends students to DIT for one full day a week for culinary techniques, meal service and pastry courses.
